The difference between telcom and strictly cable has always been one that I never understood. Here again you mention the (uplink) micro node being a telecom item? Does Telecom really need this technology? Is there a reason to change from the Central Office switch?

Maybe it's just obvious that since AT&T bought TCI, Cable has become telecom. And that the world does not revolve around RBOC's any more.

At what stage though does HLIT need higher end DWDM, by that I mean more light waves, 48 or more?

Regards,

Mark

Tim, I have a new technology that I find interesting. I have created a new SI subject thread to discuss all of the new companies and technologies that will influence the movement toward Internet connectivity of wireless devices.

The reason is simply to save time and join together to discuss all new developments in a single location. I think this can be a very effective way to discuss a wide range of topics and be alerted of great investments, as they develop.

Please join the group and share your thoughts.

Subject 29380

Hiram,

It has been a long time. I would like to hear your thoughts on Local Multipoint Distribution Service (LMDS). Its been getting a lot of attention on the West Coast. I bought into Nextlink because it appears they have a the best solution for LMDS and "the last mile". As you probably know they have a vast Fiber network and are the largest holders of LMDS spectrum licenses. They also invested $20M into Covad in January. They just started to roll out service in New Jersey and are working on a U.S. footprint.

In addition, how far can Harmonic run in the near term and long term? It appears Harmonic is making up for the past three years of being in the flat lands in a period of one year. Are you expecting the earnings to significantly exceed analyst expectations next Wednesday?

Thanks for your comments in advance,
Brad
