The purpose of this discussion group is to bring better understanding, in a single location, of the movement to bring Internet service to the wide variety of new devices under development. Currently, there are many companies with very interesting products and services, which will enable this movement. Many of these companies are well covered by specific thread topics already. The time required to search through all of these forums is too great. It is my hope that we can join together here to bring better understanding of the movement as a whole and identify the strategic players who will make the best investment. Cell phones are morphing into Web phones with built-in microbrowsers, and handheld devices and palmtops are proliferating as quickly as Britney Spears fan sites. This has led some of the more excitable trend watchers to declare the imminent demise of the personal computer and the advent of the information appliance age. A report from market research firm International Data Corp. (IDC) trumpets the "Death of the PC-centric Era," while the folks at Forrester Research Inc. claim that the PC is entering its "twilight years."
