<<I own the stock myself and will continue to for the next several years.>>

Is it allowed for an analyst to own the stock he is following? Seems like a major conflict of interest to me. Especially since he could buy right after his own downgrade and sell after an upgrade.

Thanks to you Greg for your e*mail to Matt Belkin which must have been among the most articulate and sensible which he received to instigate such a considered response. And thank you for posting his response as well. It is a very important piece in my evaluation of Winds prospects.
There have been many allusions to poor communications between Wind and the analyst community in this thread. Now I have confirmation. Matt's statements seem to clearly indicate that he doesn't feel he gets as much and as valuable guidance from Wind as he is used to. So to the extent he interviewed current users and Wind salespeople as he says he has, my respect for him as an analyst has grown. His problem is the same as mine i.e. if I can't determine accurately the risks to continued earnings growth from trustworthy management statements, I am left with getting the next best indications of what is happening and prudent paring of my investment.
It surely makes me appreciate people like Irwin Jacobs who are so careful in what they say that anything said is valuable. Jerry Fiddler probably doesn't much care whether I prune my holdings today and may not even much care if the price of Wind decreases unless there is a need for more money to buy companies and research, and really, if I were in his shoes, I would get very uncomfortable if the price of Wind went way above what I thought was reasonable value. I would do nothing to hype or encourage it to go higher unless there was an immediate need for additional cash (and maybe not then). So the message I get is that Wind's price is OK as is. Of course the fact that Fiddler responded so quickly and vocally to this analyst report may countervail that conclusion. I do find the action encouraging.
And I value Matt Belkin's response to you. Thanks, Lance
