I am sure that you've started to notice some of the tweaks we are making to the beta sight, based on your feedback, i.e. changing the new messages indicator back to red.

Speaking of color, several of you have commented on the new SI color scheme. Lots of people really like it and some people didn't (to put it mildly). Based on the feedback that we've received, we can confidently make a couple of general comments:

A. Most people (not entirely all, but most) like the blue and gold combo in the header., so we're going to stick with that.

B. However, several folks (even those that liked the blue), had less than pleasant things to say about the brown - with several references to "duty" - as in diapers or the armed services. <g>

Changing the color is not a technically difficult thing to do, but it's a pain in the neck - very tedious work - and our HTML team says mean things about me when I even suggest that we make a universal color change. <g> The point is, we only want to do this once.

Sooooo, we have created five sample pages that replace the "brown" color with different colors. You can view these pages by entering a ticker symbol in the Go box at the top left corner of the screen. It doesn't matter what ticker symbol you use. The 5 sample pages are: Quote, Charts, News, Profile and Historical Prices.

Have a look at these pages and tell us what you think. If you have a preference, please refer to the page. For example, you could say, "I like the color on the News page the best." Feel free to post your preference and/or send me a PM so this thread doesn't get too cluttered up.

Let's see if we can find a consensus, or at least a winning majority. Then, we'll make the change (and I'll run and hide from the HTML folks). <g>

Thanks,

Bryan

[Happy birthday... And I see you've been busy down there with more than birthday parties.]

I've been watching the various color alternatives rolling onto the beta server. Nice variety. And it just shows it would be an advantage to be able to choose colors, but also shows how all colors on the page (including backgrounds, color elements, link text) are closely related.

Here are my thoughts on the choices, in order of preference:

1. The current olive/blue
2. The dark gray/blue on Profile
3. The gray-green/blue on Charts
4. The light-olive/blue on News
5. The dried-mustard/blue on Hist Prices.

And some comments in reverse order.

5: I don't like 5 at all because the highlight color seems too hot. This is a high-intensity olive that increases the contrast.

4: This also creates greater contrast in both color and intensity compared the the darker olive, but with a lower intensity olive. Again, the difference strikes me as a bit too jarring (but less so that #5). At least, this one and #5 both keep the same palette for all color elements.

3. Low contrast in both color and intensity. Not bad, but the blue seems to clash a bit to my eye with the gray-green. The remnants of olive color backgrounds seem out of place here.

2. I might actually pick this one over #1. Again, it's low intensity contrast with the blue. Since it doesn't add another color, but just removes the blue, there's less color contrast as well. My main objection to it is that the light brown background and olive link-text now seems out of place.

1. It remains my preference just because all the elements seem designed for this combination. The brownish background color, the link text, and the highlight color all come from the same palette, making the page more unified.

I prefer the U&lc "Go" to the UC "GO" on the button. Although the new button is slightly shorter, it doesn't matter much since the text box remains the same. The shorter button seems a less elegant fit.

Bryan- first hope you had a happy bday. second- do you know why I cant get into the beta site anymore. The sign on screen is different and I says that the page is no longer found. It has been this way for 2 days. Am I doing something wrong? I have heard from others who are having the same prob.

Thanks!
O
