To the best of my knowledge all DVD drive play CDs. Dell's support should help you...they have the best support in the industry...IMHO

BBG

Got a P3 Dimension XPS T500 about 3 wks ago with 6X Max DVD-ROM drive. Mine can run regular Audio/Video CD discs (ie Quake2 or Bee-Gees) in addition to DVDs. I suspect you have a minor hardware/software dysfunction.

I would start with troubleshooting ("Ask Dudley":http://www.dell.com/support/index.htm

If not then maybe givem a call.

OT: on DELL machine.
We have a similiar setup, but with a RW CD. But the DVD CAN read cdroms. Just call DELL, they should fix you up quickly.

I have a naive question RE the CD RW for anyone. Can one copy AUDIO to a RW CD or only to a RCD. I can write anything to a RW CD but not audio. I'll probably call DELL on this tonight or soon.

TIA

R

DELL DVD stuff...

I have a Dell system with a DVD drive and I have yet to find a CD the system cannot read -- data or audio.

I once saw where re-writable CDs can only be read by the machine that made them. I don't know if this applies in your case.

Cheerios, PW.

BBG, **OT** regarding the DVD in your new Dell pc. I ordered the same pc...Dell 550MH, DVD, etc. My DVD plays a CD-ROM without any problems. (It also plays the demo DVD disk that came with the computer.) I suggest that you call Dell's tech support and get some help on this problem.

I see you paid $2800 for the pc. FYI, I paid $2222, including shipping. If you wish, send me a PM and we can compare the details.

Good luck in getting the problem fixed. I'm sure you'll love the pc, I do.

You may need to re-install the drivers for the DVD/CD-ROM.

I just bought an internal CD-RW to go with my CD-ROM...It's great!
