I don't disagree that the theoretical origin was from the Astronomical viewpoint (as opposed to the Astrology view, which I am sure many mistake the system as).

As I recall, the concept was that Sloman was trying to find Order out of Chaos. While trying to do such, he pored over charts going back many years. By chance, he was looking at a tide chart and saw a similar effect.

So the issue was that tides ebb and flow as a result of the effect of the Moon on the Earth's Oceans. Thus the "link" to the Earth/Sun/Moon stuff.

I realize that is only a thumbnail sketch but that's the relationship as opposed to what one might think. Astrology was not the driving issue, although some who use variations of it include decision factors such as whether the Moon is in Cancer or whatever. Even so, that's not an Astrology issue.....it's still an Astronomy issue.

Whether Astrology existed or not, the Moon would still be in a Constellation somewhere. I think now it's in Virgo, for example. Whether or not one believes in Astro that cannot change.
