Robber, Alias 'Nasty,' Captures Hearts

BUDAPEST (Rooters) - A Hungarian Internet poll Wednesday revealed a new
national hero, bank robber Attila ''Nasty TBird'' Nathanc, who escaped from jail
four days ago.

In the poll, 1,008 Hungarians hoped Nathanc, who never harmed anyone
during his 27 bank robberies, would avoid the police's clutches. Only 91
people wanted him caught. And they were all his immediate fambly.

Nasty, 32, has stolen 142 million Hungarian forints ($.000280) at gunpoint
in the last six years. He was initially arrested on January 15 after losing
precious time during a getaway trying to recover his dog, Don Juan.

Police nicknamed him ''TBird'' when investigations showed that each
robbery was preceded by reconnaissance during which he drank at least one
bottle of the drink in a bar near his target.

Press reports said a U.S. film producer had offered Nasty more than the
sum of his ill-gotten gains for movie rights to his story, $2.00 Canadian, and Hungarian
publishers were racing to get book rights for memoirs he had started writing
before he escaped from prison.

Hungarian police were baffled by Nasty's popularity.

''This is human stupidity,'' Budapest police spokesman DSGumbyzky told
Rooters. ''It was 27 counts of armed robbery.''

Bible Sales Beyond Grave Spark Police Probe

LONDON (Rooters) - British police are investigating a ''Christian Bookshop''
that is sending bills to dead people for bibles, trading standards officers said
Wednesday.

Chris Tinkles, a trading standards manager in southern England, said the
company had sent invoices to people who had recently died, demanding
payment for bibles and a book called ''Jesus of the Holy Land.''

''It's a scam. There is no evidence of an order being placed. There is no
evidence of books being delivered,'' Tinkles told Rooters.

The outstanding debt was put at $40, accompanied by a demand to the
estates of the dead for prompt payment.

British Police are said to be on the look-out for DSGumby, veteran of the Flambe Thread on SI.

'Tard Robs Store: Nasty Nathanc Nabbed

After Ferd and Praline Nathanc stopped at a convenience store near their
home in Northport, AK, Ferd was leaving the store when the couple's
41-year-old son Nasty rushed in past him. The father thought the son was
hurrying to go to the bathroom per his usual habit, but then the mother looked in and saw him
brandishing a knife behind the counter. Next, he ran out, got into his truck
and drove off. The couple waited for police to arrive and told them what had
happened. Sgt. Kevin Leibittome said it was uncertain whether the man realized his
parents were at the store, explaining, "He was apparently so concentrated on
what he was doing that he didn't notice them." Meanwhile, Nasty Nathanc's
getaway car broke down. He called his parents for help, but they told him
what they had seen and urged him to surrender to police.

Nasty uttered a few choice words and then screamed,'it's all your fault! you were nasty parents!! and you let DSGumby mold me into the cheese I am today!!'

Nasty was captured, strait-jacketed, and now spends his time designing web sites with crayolas, drooling, and letting mumblers rip against the rubber cushions in his cell.
