Tom,>>>why should he?<<<

It shows that you are in control of the situation - that you are running a tight ship. It prevents people like Drew Peck and Dan Niles from making a fool out of you. These people are going on TV each quarter telling people that they know this business better than you do. It prevents people from manipulating your stock price.

Dan Niles and Drew Peck will scare a number of investors away from investing in Intel. Once they are gone, they may never come back - creating less demand for your stock and lowers you PE in the short term and the long term.

The stock market is not completely rational and is frequently driven by emotions.

Managing expectations is part of life. It is something you just have to do. Any successful parent, raising kids, would know this. It is not evil to manage expectations. We are not asking Andy to cook the books. We are asking Andy to manage analyst expectations. Many of these analysts are like children, they have to be managed.
