engineer: on DSPs and TXN:
the applications that they spout off about are all very high volume applicaitons and the power/size/cost curves are always right at the edge of what it takes to make it a viable product. they need an order of magnitude change in speed/power/cost in order to gain that market. the justification is still too large not to allow people like Qualcomm from making their own DSP core and working it down to a fine edge wihtout paying any margins to TXN.

Is TXN's "miss" driven by marketing miscalculations or technological limitations, or barriers to entry from the ASIC makers, those who are capable of integrating the DSP core? It would seem that 3G, multi-media etc. as discussed in the cdg ho down will open up opportunities for TXN.

Good to hear from you, engineer. Best, Steven

Engineer,

I was wondering about broadband MEO satellite projects that QCOM a while ago mulled to get involved and drop later. Is that type of project similar to Teledesic (LEO) that $ Gates wants.

I know without obtaining the proper spectrum and licenses. It will not happen. But is it likely to happen in the future? A new venture with some other companies? Is CDMA still suitable to get involved in broadband data offering through MEO or GEO satellites?

Curious and best,

Brian H.

engineer, you have explained why TXN will not dominate the CDMA market... for exactly the same reason they have not dominated the Desktop Video/Audio market with their DSP's.

Is TXN a good investment for their DSP's in general?? YESSS..

Is TXN right for CDMA?? NO......

QCOM WILL KICK THEIR ASS, and anyone else who thinks they understand what CDMA customers' want.
