The more the merrier IMO - as long as Win CE doesn't get a stranglehold early and kill off effective competition with $$$$s and hard ball marketing..>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I have a big chunk of Q and a dab of MSFT so I share your sentiments to some extent. However, MSFT's $5B investment in ATT was viewed by many as a not so subtle way for The Dark Empire to get a stronghold on the Cable STB market, of which ATT now controls access to 40% of. On handhelds, I'm not sure. Ain't it funny though how we like our Gorillas when they are babies(Q), but when they get bigger they are somehow less cuddly. <gg> Let's hope some day Q is hated as much as MSFT.

Re: Win CE and current lead of Palm Pilot and the possibilities of Symbian appeal.

My impression is that Win CE is trying to face off against a variety of OS's, including Java implementations. In the same way that the new NT is trying to appeal over a too-wide spectrum of applications, Win CE tends to (try) to be implemented in some applications where it is not appropriate. For instance, in PDA's Palm OS and Symbian are clearly better able to address the low power requirements, etc. Meanwhile, Java still isn't quite ready for prime-time and is being hampered by Sun's control. Sounds like the POS terminals mentioned up-thread are near CE's sweet spot.
