Talk looks more and more like a deal....Alta Vista soon will start offering free Internet access and a cheap, easy way for smaller firms to get on the Web. It also is searching for acquisitions, says Schrock, who freely admits he'd welcome a merger with Lycos. Lycos' largest shareholder is CMGI. Such a deal would help AltaVista grow faster, he says. ''I don't see a downside to it,'' Schrock said.
