Ken, Do you believe there will be a significant impact on the construction industry in the dead of winter during Y2K rollover? Perhaps this is why the sector, as a whole, appears to be lagging in Y2K remediation (that is, as of 3/5/99 according to GG). My understanding is that building and contracting nears a low during the winter months, though you seem to be on the front lines with this one. Scrumpy

GARTNER GROUP STATUS GRAPHS for Congress. Strongly urge carefully studying them. They contain a wealth of information. Click thru on the link in my last post. (pollys read them only under your physicians' supervision; denialists of course, won't study them in any case). However grim some of it may seem to some, remember that they are EXCEPTIONALLY OVER-OPTIMISTIC AND UNDERSTATED AND INCOMPLETE!!! They do NOT factor in such CRUCIAL factors as: ---the fact that any one leg of the iron triangle, or of the fatal five that goes down can/will collapse, and immediately, ALL of the others also, ---the entire cascading effects of every chain in every industry, Remember, EVERY significant chain has at least about 7-9 layers! Any break-down of any one link in any one chain can collapse that ENTIRE chain AND, a lot of interdependent cross-chains also! ---the entire international division of labor that our modern organizated society is TOTALLY dependent on, ---the fault tolerance ability of each chain, each interdependent croos-chain, as well as the entire infrastructure in general, ---additional significant or fatal disruptions, temporary, indefinate or permanent, from: ---natural/environmental disasters ---international wars ---nuke plants meltdowns ---nuke launches or intentional attacks ---cyberterrorism ---terrorism with WMD and/or explosives, espically at vital junctures anywhere in the infrastructure ---cascading bankruptcies ---market meltdowns ---disruptive solar flares ---international wars, espically those affecting supplies of oil or strategic minerals, etc. ---effects of states of emergencies and/or dictatorial takeovers in any country ---use of the new hi-energy weapons that can disrupt telecom, the grid, the military, etc. ---spread of conventional diseases or the new super-viruses, the new genetically engineered diseases/viruses ---the Beach bug ---widespread and/or geographically disasterous explosions and fires from chemical and manufacturing plants ---internal terrorism and rogue military units assigned for military control(after the military units' assets and comm and control devices and organization also degrade sufficiently) ---infiltration of remediation teams and/or emergency repair teams by the enemy (building firewalls, etc) for personal gain or political purposes ---unavailability of sufficient (skilled) workers for repair of any key grid banking or infrastructure breakdowns ---civil unrest, looting, arson, turf takeovers ---during widespread civil unrest, gangs dealing in drugs can gain control, as they have the most cash, are the best organized, the best weapons, the most fearless, the least to lose ---class civil 'warfare' ---widespread hacking ---mental incapacitation by the masses under sufficient stress ---law of the jungle mentality and actions superceding community cohesiveness and preparation ---internal group relocations/ethic cleansing ---international civil wars ---termination of civil liberties by EOs and PDDs ---military takeovers ---suspension/termination of Posse Comitatus ---suspension of or non-functioning civil court system ---out of control fires The above is, of course, an incomplete list of potential factors, as I just noted them extemporaneously. Key fact of all to remember: all humans die after 4 days without water. Who will NOT store at least 4 days of clean water (remembering that water is free) next December?
