Stew, are you issuing a Gorilla Alert? Wow, for a guy who is clearly reluctant to over sell his pick, this is quite a recommendation. I take it you smell victory in the TV Guide dispute.

For a company under legal pressure, gmst's 163% return ytd is pretty snappy. Does this mean you think they'll do better? When do you expect them to start posting significant profits?

Frank

Stew: Many thanks for your highly intelligent and well researched posts regarding GMST. During the past few years, anytime that I have tended to doubt the wisdom of this investment, I have looked to you by going to YAHOO and catching up on your posts over there. I am glad that you also post here on SI. Many of us have come to trust you as the one most likely to know what is going on at GMST and most generous in sharing that wisdom with those of us who have come to believe but are without your ability and sources when it comes to gathering important information.

Again, many thanks. You have kept me in GMST and helped me to buy more at appropriate times. Keep up the great work.

Stew:

Appreciate your initial comments some time ago on this thread. Followed your other posts on MF and Yahoo, and PM'd with Merlin (Mike Buckley); also read the Stephens Inc. report recently issued.

Agree with you about potential Gorilla status; moreover, Gemstar is making money now. And the street likes it with 5/5 analysts giving it a Strong Buy. So I think the downside is minimal, and the upside great.

Therefore, I took an initial position in Gemstar last week; could be to internet TV what AOL has been to dial-up internet connections.

Thanx to you and to Mike Buckley for the learned posts on Gemstar.

Good to see you again, Stew. We visit in other forums but I've missed you over here.

I haven't taken the time to post about Gemstar, mostly because you can do such a better job and because Qualcomm and the front office biz takes most of my posting time.

P. S. I'll take Calvin Pickering. But if Peter DeAngelos lets Baines go the way he let Palmero go, not even Pickering will make me forgive him. By the way, I was at the game this weekend when Baines broke the record for the number of homeruns hit by a DH.

Periscopes up on Gemstar

Stew, thanks for all the good info on Gemstar. I have my periscope on it.

I plunge on a Gorilla once I buy into it, but I wait until I am very sure before I do. That gives me the confidence to "bet the farm".

I want to see three things before I buy Gemstar.

1: Has it cross the "Chasm"?

2. Has it established a pattern of earnings?

3. Has it increased its size to "Big Cap"?

Gemstar is still in the wings on these three, IMO.

By waiting, I pay more, but I cut my risk to almost zero, as far as bad company news. We are always at risk for bad market news, no matter what we buy.

And even though I pay more, I still get one hell of a run for my money.

Perhaps Gemstar's rise will coincide with Q's maturity, when its price stabilizes. That would be nice timing.

We leads in a dancehall have a saying, when we have a lot of good partners available, that it is a "target rich environment" With Gorillas like Q, MSFT, and Cisco available, Kings like LU, and up and coming potential Gorillas like Gemstar, we "Knights of the G&K thread" certainly can say the same!
