Thomas;

The stock I am considering doing this with only has options into Jan right now, so I can't do the Leap thing. The neat thing is you can take in roughly 1/3 your money right now without having to pay taxes this year. Frankly it is very unusual for options to get called in a full 3 weeks before expiring, so I would not be that worried about it. The other neat thing is if we hit a downdraft and the stock was not called in you could increase your holdings by 50% from buying at the lower levels with the premiums. I am also considering, for my next stage of selling in 2000-1, of selling out of the money calls, a few months out, as the stock reaches technical resistance levels. I'd do this with my IRA holdings.

Best Regards,
John Stewart
