AOL to launch free Internet service in UK-paper

LONDON, July 18 (Reuters) - America Online Inc AOL.N, the
world's biggest Internet service provider, will announce on
Monday it is launching a subscription-free Internet service in
Britain to compete with Freeserve, the service to be floated
next month by the Dixons Group DXNS.L, the Financial Times
said.
The FT said AOL's new service, to be called Netscape Online,
would be launched next month and would be aimed at the business
and professional market.
The paper quoted AOL President and Chief Operating Officer
Bob Pittman, as saying the new service was part of the company's
strategy to develop a multi-brand portfolio of services.
AOL has around one million subscribers in Britain and more
than 20 million subscribers worldwide.
Freeserve has 1.32 million users and is expected to be
valued at between 1.3 billion pounds ($2.04 billion) and 1.5
billion when it comes to the market early next month.
