RealNetworks' RealPlayer Software to Be Distributed by Gateway

Seattle, July 18 (Bloomberg) -- RealNetworks Inc., the
biggest maker of software used to play Internet audio and video,
said its RealPlayer G2 software will be distributed and promoted
on Gateway Inc.'s personal-computer line for consumers.

Terms of the agreement weren't disclosed.

RealNetworks' RealPlayer G2 software lets computer users
search for so-called streaming media on the Web and set pre-sets
to get direct access to Web programming. Gateway, the No. 2
direct seller of PCs, will ship computers with RealNetworks'
software and promote content using RealNetworks through its
gateway.com Internet service.

RealNetworks is trying to expand the reach of its software.
It already has an 85 percent share of the streaming-media market.

Seattle-based RealNetworks fell 7/8 to 86 5/8. San Diego-
based Gateway fell 1 1/2 to 70 1/2.
