SkyTune Debuts Digital TV and Datacasting Business; New Management Team and New Name Herald Digital TV Product Focus

FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 19, 1999--SkyTune, a company formerly known as Auravision, today announced a new management team and product focus.

SkyTune will deliver integrated and complete solutions to make personal computer and communications appliances the receivers of high-speed data and content such as music and video. Auravision was known as a leading provider of PCI video decoder solutions.

SkyTune will leverage this wealth of video and PC architecture expertise by supplying semiconductors and application software to this rapidly growing field.

The advent of digital TV worldwide has created an unprecedented opportunity to deliver entertainment and information at a quality and scope previously impossible. Dataquest predicts that the digital TV semiconductor market will grow to exceed $1.3B by 2002.

Highlighting the new company direction, SkyTune today announced the SKY951VP, a next generation PCI video decoder designed for digital television and datacasting applications. This device was developed with SkyTune's technology partner, Samsung Semiconductor. The SKY951VP brings the following four integrated components together on one chip for the first time: -0- *T

-- digital transport stream interface for VSB, OFDM, QAM, QPSK

demodulators;

-- an NTSC/PAL/SECAM analog video decoder;

-- a PC99 compliant PCI bridge with 5 DMA channels

-- a digital quality analog video comb filter pair

*T -0- The SKY951VP can be used for DTV as well as conventional analog TV (NTSC/PAL/SECAM) applications. The SKY951VP is designed for Windows 98 and complies with PC99 recommendations.

The SKY951VP is optimized for today's analog and the rapidly emerging digital video applications. It is an ideal solution for video systems where both digital video quality and analog compatibility are equally essential.

It addresses the worldwide Digital TV market, in particular, DVB-S for digital satellite broadcast, DVB-T for digital terrestrial broadcast and ATSC for digital terrestrial broadcast in North America.

New Management Team

Richard Johnson, president and CEO, leads SkyTune's solid management team and this company transformation. He has over 20 years of experience in technology marketing and sales management, 15 of which have been in the semiconductor industry.

Before joining SkyTune, he was vice president of Worldwide Sales for ZSP and QuickLogic; vice president of Sales and Corporate Marketing for Integrated Information Technology (8x8); and vice president of Worldwide Sales for NCR Microelectronics (Symbios). He also served as assistant general manager for the ASIC SBU at NEC.

Joining Johnson and an experienced team at SkyTune is Mike Stauffer, vice president of Systems Engineering and Mike Noonen, vice president of Sales and Marketing.

Mike Stauffer has a broad range of industry experience including digital video broadcast and IC Engineering. Prior to joining SkyTune, he served as vice president and general manager for Hyundai's Digital Video Systems Division as well as director of new business development for Compression Labs. He has an MSEE from Stanford University and a BSEE from MIT.

He holds two patents and has been published in over 30 industry journals and conferences.

Mike Noonen has over twelve years of experience in technology sales and marketing. Prior to joining SkyTune, Noonen served as vice president of Strategic Marketing and Business Development for 8x8 as well as chief executive officer of VidUs Inc., a subsidiary of 8x8 focused on broadband Internet telephony.

He earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Colorado State University and holds several patents in the field of Internet telephony and services.
