Here are 546 instances of the use of "animus toward." I used google.com. (It's my favorite search engine now!)

I believe the dictionaries you cited that used "animus against" were those which (still) give animus the spirit def. instead of the currently accepted animosity/enmity def., so of course they would have to indicate that the "animus" was against, or its nature, positive or negative, would not be clear.

Now that the word is used to animosity or enmity... etc.

I'm leaving for the airport soon, don't have time to look closely at this list, but I do see Robert Nozick and a bunch of law schools and universities listed. I think it demonstrates that "animus toward" is now "accepted usage."

If you put "animus against" into google.com, you get 486 matches.
