Burgoo,

If it's true, it seems like this line is the key...

Many Intel customers, including HP, IBM and Compaq, have persuaded the goliath to change its mind. The mobo manufacturers are peripheral...

It's not surprising that, if Dell is taking the majority of RDRAM for the next two quarters, the other PC manufacturers would apply pressure to get Intel to at least toss them a bone and support 133Mhz SDRAM. Even still, it wouldn't significantly change the long-term roadmap for Intel. PC-133 SDRAM is not some magically wonderful solution that blows away 100Mhz SDRAM -- it's still a dead-end technology.

It'll be interesting to see if The Register has the story straight or if, like Electronics News, they botched it.

Dave

p.s. Your opening statement ("I guess maybe Intel isn't so excited about rambus after all") is not supported by the article.

I check news for both Rambus and intel and could not confirm your story. What is source?
