This should put to rest any rumors about Brocade getting any business from Sun. They just passed the point of no return by putting out
this press release. Announcing that you are going to compete
head to head with Sun, should give IBM, HP, etc cause for thought
on whether they want to deal with Brocade. I had heard that this
is the direction that Brocade was going to employ long term, but
competing with potential OEM deals is bad business in my view.

At first glance of the Brocade press release, I almost fell off my chair. After re-reading the news release couple more times, it is not not what it appears to be.

Following is the objective of the Sun sponsored gathering:

<<<Sun StorEdge Symposium
Product and Solutions Fair

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Event Summary

Sun Network Storage invites you to showcase your technologies that give customers a leading edge in their IT environments at our Sun StorEdge Smposium Product and Solutions Fair. This fair is our alliance members' opportunity to showcase your latest storage-focused or storage-complementary technologies and solutions to over 500 Sun storage field specialists and executives from around the world. If you are interested in access to Sun's storage specialist field sales organization and our channel constituents, in order to build or extend mind share with them or collaborate with them, this is your best opportunity to reach these key individuals. The Product and Solutions Fair will help create awareness and develop relationships within our storage specialist field sales organization that will extend the sales and marketing capabilities of all parties.>>>

Brocade is showing they too can have 'SOME' configurations with SUN equipment in a workable SAN. 'RESELLERS' can sell these configurations if they want to...if Brocade can convince these 'RESELLERS' to. This is not the same thing IMHO that SUN and Ancor in an OEM agreement to sell the type of high performance SAN configurations

'RESELLERS'/'channel partners' don't sell a whole lot of switches. How many Ancor switches did their channel partners sold the past few years? I can count them with one hand.<g> They generally do not have the expertise to design and support various SAN environments. They sell configurations that the 'big boys' have blessed...i.e. SUN/Ancor in this case.

So, relax, call the company if you want. I'm not worried. Re-read the Brocade press release several times. You'll agree with me.
