You are correct, JDB, there is a market for the "fastest computer" even when the improvement is extremely marginal. But there is also a sizeable market for the "cheapest acceptable computer" that is quite large as well. Unless the packaging savings from less pins offsets the extra cost of the memory, I would expect PC133 to dominate in the economy and mainstream markets even if manufacturers have to use VIA chipsets.

If a fast car depreciated to $0 in 2 years (like computers), nobody would be interested in doing anything besides buying the cheapest fast car possible.

I think most people are like me (when it comes to buying computers, anyway). That is, I want to pay as little as possible, because it is the fastest depreciating thing I will ever buy.
