Department of Labor Chooses MCI WorldCom for Telecom; MCI WorldCom Scores Second FTS2001 Selection in Two Weeks
PR Newswire - July 23, 1999 11:15

MCLEAN, Va., July 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Less than 10 days after announcing a $100 million Department of Commerce selection for all FTS2001 services, MCI WorldCom (Nasdaq: WCOM) today announced that the Department of Labor has chosen MCI WorldCom to provide telecom services under the FTS2001 program. The award by the Department of Labor, valued at a potential $75 million over eight years, is for all voice and advanced data services. The Department of Labor becomes the eighth cabinet level agency to choose MCI WorldCom under the FTS2001 umbrella.

Under the FTS2001 program MCI WorldCom Government Markets has won a significant amount of new business this year. Since Contract award, MCI WorldCom Government Markets has successfully competed to provide all voice, data, Internet and conferencing services to the Departments of Interior, Agriculture, Transportation and Commerce. The Department of Defense, the largest single user of long distance services under the old FTS2000 program, chose MCI WorldCom to provide voice service in March. Other significant wins under the FTS2001 umbrella include the Department of Education and Department of Energy for voice services, and the Social Security Administration for ATM data services.

Under FTS2001, individual user agencies, such as the Department of Labor, may choose from either of two-awarded telecommunication companies to provide services to agencies. MCI WorldCom won the second of the two FTS2001 contracts in January.

"This is a great opportunity to show the Department of Labor first hand our commitment to customer service," said MCI WorldCom director of civilian markets Tony Bardo. "We have every expectation that we will build a strong relationship with them by providing the most advanced solutions at the most competitive prices."

"This victory clearly shows MCI WorldCom's comprehensive FTS2001 package is second to none," said MCI WorldCom director of FTS2001 programs Rick Slifer. "The Department of Labor can count on MCI WorldCom to be there to meet all their needs with advanced solutions and world class customer service."
