Joe, that 2 G's for that beautiful dog's life is even a better 909 Story than CNXT or CAMP !! A day at the park with Lava sounds like the exhausting fun it is! Labs seen to mature more slowly coordination wise and training wise than some other breeds, don't they... but their grace and wisdom when they mature shows the reason was because they never skipped over a chapter in any lesson from The Ones They Love. I discovered this "heal training" by accident one day when my dog was young, I'd forgotten her leather leash wasn't in the car (Blue, that's a great suggestion about dangling the lead, never knew about that one) and so had to improvise a leash from some twine to take her on a campus when I was looking at a college .... She was ready for the string leash, and from the moment I put it on she let me know how proud she was to "graduate" to the lightness and longer-length freedom of it !! Hmm, I thought, this could be good. And it was! Maybe Lava would like it too about now. The thing is, make a big deal about the privilege of the string leash; and take it off the minute the dog pulls and put the leather leash back on... then give it another chance with the string after awhile, etc. It makes it more fun, and Every Dog Loves Rewards and Privileges. Maybe this will speed things up a bit; lemmetellya my dog was able to go without a leash on city streets, staying perfectly at my side, when she was about a year old... and I'm guessing yours will too. There'll be one amazing blazing week when Lava is ready to show you Everything She Knows, like a Baby taking first steps. Yep, once the dog learns to heel, string is more convenient to carry around always than a heavy leash is, & meets the legal requirements of a leash, anyway. Starting it early as a training accellerator just might 909 the fun for the both of you; when it's like flying a kite and walking a dog all at the same time. 909s2U2, Joan
