Michael, there is a slight warming trend this century. The question is if it is just ordinary variation, or something which will persist. The studies are inconclusive. Those who promote the idea of "global warming" say:"Why take a chance? Act now before it is too late." Those against note that to counter the hypothesized effect, the measures would be so drastic that global economic development, and thus the future prosperity of many poor people, would be seriously compromised. That is why it is in the political arena, because it is a debatable matter, not resolvable as yet by science. I am on your side, by the way...

Michael
You've been suckered by a famous hoax. Here's the substance of the petition:

Global Warming Petition

We urge the United States government to reject the global warming agreement
that was written in Kyoto, Japan in December, 1997, and any other similar
proposals. The proposed limits on greenhouse gases would harm the
environment, hinder the advance of science and technology, and damage the
health and welfare of mankind.

There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide,
methane, or other greenhouse gasses is causing or will, in the foreseeable future,
cause catastrophic heating of the Earth's atmosphere and disruption of the
Earth's climate. Moreover, there is substantial scientific evidence that increases
in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural
plant and animal environments of the Earth.

This statement is simply ridiculous. It completely mischaracterizes the bulk of the research and makes several statements that are demonstrably wrong. No person who claimed to be a scientist would ever sign a statement so sweeping and unsupported.
Any pretence you have to being an expert in quality requires you to disaffiliate yourself from this petition as a simple matter of intellectual honesty.

Michael, those people who signed the petition you cited denying the reality of global warming are for the most part not experts of any kind whatsoever. Anyone with a degree can sign--you don't have to be any kind of scientist with any knowledge whatsoever of climate or the environment--and in fact there are quite a few medical doctors from conservative states like Louisiana who are simply in high tax brackets and are conservatives or libertarians, and would sign any piece of paper which they believed might lessen their tax burden.

But we already talked about that last year. I am surprised that you would bother to bring up that web site again, which was already totally debunked here.
