Bad example. PCI overtook VESA based on technical merit, not on the power of Intel.

So that makes it a perfect example for RDRAM. A superior technical solution (low pin count, lower granularity, faster transfer rate, etc., etc., etc.) and the power of Intel. Hard combination to beat. <G>

Actually, I disagree with you a little. VESA had a year-long headstart. If Intel hadn't decided PCI was going to be the standard, PCI would not have become the standard. Too many vendors were already producing VESA boards. Or, it wouldn't have become the standard as quickly as it did, and add-in card vendors would have wasted money developing both interfaces.

Dave
