Say what you will about Jobs. Sure, he's got a mountain load of ego driven bravado and he hypes to the extreme but he and Apple have connected...especially with the imac. A year ago my 75 year old father had about given up on maintaining a productive place in this world. Retired, crippled and feeling useless and out of touch. Then one day he sees a mag ad for the imac. Never even knew what a computer was or was for up to that point. But the ad convinced him he had to have one. So he had me order one for him. Now he's an internet geek. Surfs the web all day looking for old WWII buddies and having a ball in the various chat rooms of interest. He's practically build a shrine to the imac and is his pride and joy. Convinced five or six of his senior friends to buy one. And, the amazing part is he's yet to call me with a problem. So, I thank Jobs and Apple for giving him a new life. You know, it's one thing to make fine products, and Dell does, but it's quite another to connect to the consumer. And I do hope as Dell moves into the consumer market that they will offer products that will appeal to the masses and change lives like the imac has in my situation.
