johnd - it is impossible to make hard and fast targets, but I'm sticking with my figures that I've talked about since April of this year:

The fall of this year, exacerbated by the concerns about overvaluation, Y2K fears, and other factors, could be very trying. MSFT has very strong support at 74. If the conditions warrant (market meltdown), you may see 74. If 74 breaks, I see 67 1/2 as virtually unbreakable, but we'll only see the 67 1/2 in very bad market conditions. My target for April of 2K is $140.

The second half of 1997 saw Asian economic fears ("The Asian Flu") which caused a deep selloff in the overall world and U.S. Markets.

The second half of 1998 saw Russian, Brazilian, and Long Term Capital issues that caused a deep selloff in the world markets again. In each of these cases MSFT performed reasonably well for a stock with its beta. Particularly in 98 when the stock was only below 100 for a minimal amount of time during a bear market.

Do you expect MSFT selloff in the second half of 99 to be caused by some market selloff caused by some large external event? Or is it questions about MSFT guidance and business as you indicated in earlier posts?

jd, I know this will sound a little nuts <ggg>, but I expect MSFT will finish the year north of 100, and I am starting to think the Y2K scenario might help US stocks and Markets, not hurt them, as foreign investors looks for a safe haven to park their $$$.

I have little clue how the Markets and MSFT will trade over the next few months. The one thing I am sure of is that it's going to be very interesting/volatile. We certainly should see some wild swings in the Market, yet since I believe the bond yields will eventually head south towards 5.0% the Stock Market may very well see some major cash inflows by the end of the year.

Just my opinions -- wish I could be more specific...

Predictions ... How full of it can one get?

OK, here's mine. Microsoft will last trade at $102.25 on December 31, 1999.

Cheerios, PW.

P.S. I'm still convinced we're in a surge to $110 at the moment.
