Do you think the rescue and recovery efforts would be any less if the plane had carried Doro Bush or Julie Nixon or Amy Carter? Do you think if Bob Dole was President the efforts would be any less? You betcha it would be different, Mark. The people you mention aren't "the anointed ones." Only those specially coronated get the exaggerated treatment we are now disgusted with. This compares to the special treatment Flight 800 got (and deserved) when it was thought to be something other than accidental. And, if Dole were president, I doubt very much if he would be as involved in the minutia of the search as Clinton is, and wouldn't be trying to orchestrate the events for his personal aggrandizement. There would be a sincere public statement of condolence from the White House, and probably a personal, PRIVATE phone call to the family. Yeah, I think it would be considerably different.I'm amazed at the heartfelt venom being showcased on this thread, the pleasure being taken in someone else's death. Perhaps the only good thing to come out of this sad event is that your public displays allow us to see you for what you really are: bitter, hateful, small people. Either you've been reading another thread, or you haven't been reading what has been said. Nobody is taking pleasure in the death of anybody. What is being expressed is disgust with the public wailing and ostentatious gnashing of teeth over a PRIVATE CITIZEN that is being treated as if he were the "Second Coming" personified. Nobody's happy that he killed himself and a couple of others; but we're sure not overwhelmed with grief, either. And, as to your personal insults, I suggest you look to yourself for applicability. They suggest you can't summon the logic or mental discipline to be rational. If your emotion is overwhelming you, Mark, go somewhere quiet until you feel better. jim ps to R.E.B. -- sorry to steal your thunder, pard, but I waited until I couldn't stand it any longer to reply.
