Well John, the only time that I have ever felt even an inkling of desire to own a gun was when I was in Texas. The reason I felt that way there is because everybody has guns there, and you need to protect yourself against average citizens with guns. Here nobody I am in contact with in any way has guns. Sure there is the rare, very rare exception of a carjacking or something but in general, no guns. I can go out here and feel safe at 11 pm walking across the parking lot to my car. In Texas, no way. You need a gun, because average guys there have guns, and you never know when someone is going to emotionally snap, or get drunk, or have some sort of other reason to use this gun they carry around. I believe guns make violent criminals out of people that would never be so without guns.

Again I don't care to try to outlaw all guns since I know that is not possible. I don't care for automatic weaponry and would like to get rid of that. But my entire entry into this debate has to do with what makes a hero in my town. To me, somebody that stops gun violence with another gun is not a hero, that is not an example of "guns saving lives"
