hey mr. g,

glad that at least something worked. you know, now that you mention it, i just last week tried adding that line to the prefs.js file too. only reason i fooled with it in the first place was the webferret suddenly started opening ie browser windows on me, when previously it had always opened netscape. i soon discovered a way to change settings in webferret, but in the meantime i had the same lack of success as you with prefs.js. and the inserted line isn't there now, btw. hmmmm. one point mentioned is to close all browser components prior to doing the notepad edit. and i thought i followed that instruction. i'm going to try it again for grins in a few minutes. but i'm also going to check netscape faq's for more skinny.

ufaq.org

i'll get back to you if anything changes for the better.

"do you think that once IE became default browser and checks every time that it somehow forces Netscape to check?"

yes, possibly.

:)

hey mr. g,

i told you that i was going to be doing a little more investigation into this default browser situation, right?

well i visited the netscape newsgroups and used their search function for this topic. there were several recent posts pertaining to this default procedure.

i'm including a link to a site that outlines what looks to be very detailed and good instructions. specifically, what to do if what you and i tried does not work.

i'll play with it later, but at least i found more skinny to go on.

home.netscape.com

any feedback will be appreciated.

:)
