Oliver, being a cdmaOne, cdma2000 and Globalstar salesman, I find the world is looking like a very small backyard.

Any squabbling about who is boss of the sandpit will badly affect sales. It's great fun to shoot 'em up, show 'em who's boss and generally act as the village policeman [from a NZ point of view it sometimes looks more like neighbourhood bully than policeman]. Unfortunately, after the shooting, there isn't much left so it's better if Taiwan and China play pat-a-cake instead of being mano-a-mano.

Let's hope Globalstar has got lots of fixed phonebox terminals ready to go into China. We are going to need every minute sold that we can get. I think your idea of fixed phones being the big minute mover is right given the high-priced minutes AirTouch and others seem to be thinking about.

Trade barriers are going to make life more difficult for Globalstar. Let's hope the USA does some boning up on what Free Trade means.

In less than 100 years, France was invaded by Germany three times [the 1872 invasion of Alsace necessitating the flight of your correspondent's ancestors to NZ]. Germany must be envious of the French Riviera and the dark, cold nights of Hamburg make Germans want to take over a lighter and happier place.

Certainly, every summer, the huge exodus from northern Europe to southern must involve a very large financial transfer south too. Germans in their Mercedes heading south are as common as geese heading south from Canada when winter approaches.

It would be nice if they each had a Globalstar car installation.
