Dear Thread: It's July 22, do you know what your Gateway, user terminal and service providers are doing? At T-70 days to start of service (or end of Q3, anyway), I believe it's time our attention shifted from the Space Coast and Baikonour to the numerous sites where handsets are built, gateways deployed, and (soon I hope) service and handsets actually offered for sale. Recently I've visited upwards of 20 URLs related to G*, in a dozen countries and several languages. I expect more sites will need to be monitored as more retail SPs are announced. It's too hard for one person to frequently monitor so many sites. I'd like to propose a pooling of effort in which each of several of us would commit to monitor 3-4 sites on a regular (at least weekly?) basis and report to the others. Those fluent in Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and other languages are particularly solicited. Because the data we compile is potentially a powerful tool (or weapon) I'd like your opinions on whether the information we gather should be exchanged in non-public ways, as well as whether you'll volunteer to help. "Certainly, every summer, the huge exodus from northern Europe to southern must involve a very large financial transfer south too. Germans in their Mercedes heading south are as common as geese heading south from Canada when winter approaches. It would be nice if they each had a Globalstar car installation." You are right on with the migration, but I am afraid that the only reason that would carry G* phones in their cars would be that each Cell covering a particular stretch of Autobahn does not have sufficient capacity when they pack them in bumper-to-bumper.
