On May 25 NOPT released this news item:

Waltham, MA - NorthEast Optic Network, Inc. ("NEON®") [NOPT-NASDAQ] announces the signing of a Master Services Agreement (MSA) with Level 3Communications, Inc. [LVLT-NASDAQ] for lease of lit fibercapacity and for collocation on NEON®'s optical network.

The MSA provides Level 3 with the ability to access an unlimited amount of bandwidth from NEON®, and the capacity to order DS3, OC3, OC12 and OC48 service levels as needed for Level 3's initiatives in the states served by the NEON® network.

In my previous post I said I find this company interesting. The reason is due to this news item which is representative. This company is apparently providing the leasing of its own ROW infrastructure for the support and management of long haul data of MULTIPLE CARRIERS. The leasing is no bonanza, but it is essential and they should be able to operate always at capacity. This means a highly visible cash flow stream which can be reliably discounted. The question then is what is the scale of this market? The answer is the sum of the potential markets of all MSAs provided which is only bounded by the potential size of the regional optical carrier market!

I may have this all wrong, so I hope some discussion will set me straight.

New Yorker's don't know of NOPT either

I work with several fiber/telecommunication
players here in the big Apple, and nobody's
ever heard of these guys. If anyone thinks
fiber here is such a big deal, think again
as Dozens of companies have laid so much
fiber here, that it's going to get cheaper
to lease dark fibers from others, then lay
them yourself. The real game, is right of
way into lucrative buildings, which is why
FTGX will do so well over the coming years.
