Just for speculative fun.. when you said "..I'm sure someone would figure out how to infect you with a virus," referring to implanting artificial memory banks in our brains.

If one makes the simple observation that a computer virus is an errant program that causes degradation or destruction of the host system, then there are many human viruses which we suffer by a different name. The key I suppose is to only look at the results of war, famine, personal ruin, bigotry and depression.. realize they are in a sense the manifestation of viruses of human perception and response.

Forgetting for a moment the reverence we have for our cultural and religious concepts, one can stand back a distance and see the similarity of human systems degradation and self destruction when these programs spread themselves. Perhaps many of them have ill intent right from the start.

Its far more complex but cybernetic comparisions to human bio/thought processes are entertaining.
