doesn't seem right the way it stands right now, unless the consortium
has collectively assigned powers of agency and attorney over to ATHM,

From a trust stand point it makes sense. Do you send someone in to talks that everyone is afraid of (T)? Perhaps having ATHM doing the negociating in the interest of ALL the partners makes more sense than having them all go in there and make their own deals in front of ATHM (or without them). To misuse Lyndon B's famous saying, somebody has to get everyone inside the tent pissing out, instead of outside the tent pissing in.

Is this what it's all about? Bringing AOL and the other thousands of ISPs of the world onto ATHM's heretofore-closed and proprietary intranet?

Or, is it about allowing open access to the MSOs line and head end facilities, to the other ISPs, in "ways similar" to how ATHM functions today?

Thats the thing I find most amusing. Nobody knows. Hardly anybody cares.

The public and the politicians and the press dont care. They just want "open" because "open" is "good".

AOL & GTE etc. dont care either. Either way they can make enough of a stink to slow down the development of broadband. Thats all that matters to them, to turn something that is working into something that is so complex that nothing gets done.
