Hey, I'm a shareholder in T also, but I have SNET (a unit of SBC I believe) as my long distance carrier.
I also think LU & C (I personally own both) are also good stocks to buy and sock away.

Lynn,

I think that you will find that AT&T has cheaper packages than the one that you currently have. I have found that for my own purposes that it is much cheaper for me to purchase my phone time on a 'as used' basis than from purchasing blocks of time on a monthly basis that I may use or not. The reason being that there are many months that I make very few long distance calls. And when I do call long distance I typically keep my calls relatively short.

As soon as you 'divorce' AT&T you will see how many different rate packages that they will offer you. I know! I do it every year or so just to keep them on their toes!

Cheers,

Steve

Lynn:

I feel your pain. Just switched from MCI to AT&T & the order to switch my second line, an ISDN line, never took effect. Result MCI slammed me for a $4.50 minimal charge since I don't fax over my ISDN that often. Got it straightened out now, but no one likes to pay something for nothing

I suggest should check out AT&T's online billing service for your long distance account management.
See att.com.
The service offers AT&T One Rate Plus ($.10/min) with no minimum fee.

Lynn,

I pay only 9 cents a minute for state-to-state calls and only 8 cents a minute for within-a-state calls. That's one rate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with no monthly fee. I believe you need to sign up for both AT&T Worldnet and AT&T One Rate Online to get this package. If you don't have AT&T Worldnet, I think you have to pay 10 cents a minute.

Good luck,
