I just bought something from EBay and I was quite happy. So I went back and searched for more, guess what? The search function didn't work, I got some kind of Netscape network error, but I could still click on other links such as antiques...

In general, EBay as a stock isn't a very good investment in the short term. In the long run, it's harder to predict than those obvious ones such as Yahoo or AOL. It's even riskier if their site is poorly maintained. The common denominator of internet is your customer can go to your competitors by typing one line: http://www....

Right now the barrier of entry for EBay is just too low. Everyone has an auction site now: DELL, AMZN, YHOO to name a few. What does EBay have others don't?

Ebay has one job - keep their servers up. Unlike amazon, who must keep their servers up, process credit card orders, then ship products and follow up on that with customer service, handle returns, and everything else that comes with being an online-retailer. Ebay is one of my favorite business models, and i just sunk a new Geo Metro's worth of money into the stock (such a good buy right now!) but they *need* to keep their servers up. It is absolutely deplorable if they have less than a 99.99% up time. Thanks for listening.. I usually post on the E*trade IPO alert thread.

Good Evening Doug,

You wrote: >>This is where I believe eBay needs to make a big effort - perhaps
through road shows in major cities.<<

eBay does have a Road Show. Check it out:

" From our homepage to your hometown--the eBay Tour will be visiting your neighborhood soon, and we want to meet you! Bring your friends and family by an eBay Tour stop! You can meet other eBay users, plus chat with eBay employees.
If you can't join us on the road, you can follow along here as we
visit folks across the country. Check out news from the west-bound and
east-bound tours. Get the latest scoop from the road, learn about
upcoming events, and meet people joining our eBay community on the Tour! "

From the Home Page click on "eBay '99 Tour - On The Road"
