I agree Speed... ( apparent speed ) is always better. But, just like all of the present hype of ADSL advantages / speed over ISDN and Cable speeds vs ADSL.. Most people really can't see or get much benefit when using them the way most users think they will. Marketing Hype 101.

I have no doubts that those users who always need to have the fastest machine FIRST will spend the extra bucks, but that number won't be THAT large in relative terms...and will limit sales for a long time.

Until a CLEAR!!! cost/performance advantage and NEW software applications that will really show it's benefits can justify the upgrade..Sales numbers will be the first MAJOR bump in the road for Rambus once it hits the street. With that now "famous" 3 digit P/E there is NO room for a misstep.

I say this with a very pro Rambus bias.. The future for Rambus has GREAT potential... But, also little room for error, along the way...

regards

Don

Unclewest

For the 20 years I have been one of those Computer Nerds, who builds his own machines and has been buying the latest and greatest computer gadgets and new machines when I felt I could afford or justify it.

Well, as Dave and I have chatted off-line, about this exact issue, I am preparing to buy a NEW Sony 500 Mhz P-III w/128 or more ram, 13 gig Hd and firewire interface to use for Multimedia purposes.. I can't see ANY reason to wait or even pay more to get Rambus ram in this machine, because I can't imagine how it might really benefit me now or in the coming years. When the applications come out that need 800-1000 mhz and Rambus ram that I absolutely NEED to have I will upgrade again, but I don't see it coming. Even a 500 mhz P-III is WAY beyond the needs of MOST users, including ME!

Regards
don

re: V10

That is only offered with the 350, right? I have the 250 with
the big V8. Is yours fast? Mine is, but downshifts too much.
