That some go overboard in adulation is not a reason for trashing
a person...

If deaths like JFK Jr.'s and Diana's were simply treated as any other fatal accident was, nobody would bother making tasteless jokes about them. When the adulation turns the whole affair into a circus and a farce, it's hard to resist the opportunity to underscore the dumbness of it all.

Why try to turn perfectly ordinary people into mythic figures? All we do when we try is make them look ridiculous, and when we do, people are going to laugh.

You can value life and still trash death- in fact it is merely another way TO value life. Of course I prefer to value people whose lives I actually respected- Natalie Wood for example, did some terrific acting when she was younger. I really liked some of her performances. The mere fact that I listened to, laughed at, and repeated Natalie Wood jokes, does not lessen my respect for her as a person. And I was very sorry when she died.

I am sorry JFK jr died from his own carelessness. But I do not respect him, and I did not respect him before he died. Death does not change my feelings- I will not respect him simply BECAUSE he is dead. I do not believe jokes "trivialize" death. They are actually a way to confront death. Shake hands with it, and laugh at it (imo). As i have said before, I think everyone is free to have their own opinion- I am not a very judgmental person. If people don't want to laugh- I'm not going to stick a feather up their butt and MAKE them. But some people here are a little too controlling about the behavior of others (imo). Not that there's anything wrong with that........not.
