Vendit, I would have liked to post this on your thread. But since this is regarding AOL, I thought that it is better to post it here.

I find the current battle that is raging over instant messaging is very interesting. Consider the timing of the battle. I think that coming right before the DOJ decision on the MSFT case, MSFT has decided to bring this issue to the forefront to highlight the issue of anti-trust. I think they failed to impress the courts on the nature of the threat posed by the AOL-Netscape-Sun deal. So now they pop this "Instant Messaging" issue to focus on AOL's approach to dominate the arena. I think AOL lawyers have responded very correctly in that they do not want unauthorized access to their servers. I would never trust MSFT. The IT department in my company has prohibited the use of MSFT Frontpage for the simple fact that when it is used for the first time it screws up our servers which run on UNIX.

So in a way, I am pleasantly amused at this. ATT and other broadband folks should heed the needs of the consumers (at least the 17 million users of AOL) and open up their lines to AOL at competitive rates.
