you said it best john. i ALSO doubt the veracity of the faa compliancy utterance as well. even if they had bought the required equipment, the local aircraft controllers union down here in the states would be shouting their great relief fromt the print and tv media rooftops.

instead, they are looking more harried, and absolutely mum on this issue because they are afraid for their jobs, NOW. they KNOW they will be out of work jan first 2000.

Completion of this Y2K test milestone is another key step consistent with successful deployment of the STARS system. The initial operational sites are scheduled for El Paso, Texas and Syracuse, N.Y. later this year.

They haven't installed their Y2K compliant system at any site yet. Maybe the FAA doesn't consider system installation to be necessary in order to achieve 100% Y2K compliance!
