I think that you are correct, that there were many people with a substantial investment in the idea that the Kennedys were persons of unfulfilled promise, and that in some final reckoning things would be set right.(By the way, I want to point out that I was not the one who addressed the young man with only the cynical take on the story, and my response to Vaughn had to do with reasons for planes crashing).To acknowledge that sentiment is not to ratify it, though...

amen, Steve. you summed it up very well. Even though all we ever really knew about Jr. was either from old films with his father, or Tabloids, we all 'just knew' he would take up some day where his Father left off. We all kept it in the back of our minds, just knowing after a few more years of maturity, 'aging', Jr. would be ready.
It seems there is not a single person in this country with the same type of persona, that can fill the void that, while it wasn't full yet, it was 'getting there'.....
