I also believe Beijing Telecom. Great Wall Mobil Communication Inc. (Which is the CDMA system operator) could be under the wing of China Unicom after the reshuffle.

Brian, Ramsey: I seem to recall a post on the other thread about 10 to 14 days ago from a Chinese news source (not Xinhua) that, after reconsideration, Great Wall was not going to be folded into China Unicom. A principal reason advanced was that this would be more expedient for purposes of China Unicom's (supposedly) forthcoming public offering (US too?). Merging Great Wall into or otherwise folding its operations into Unicom would lead to additional dislosure and due diligence issues. There was another reason offered: that Great Wall would operate its own CDMA system to offer competition to China Unicom in the provision of CDMA based systems. And, all this was given in the context of the break-up of China Telecom into four constituent pieces.

With the proliferation of posts on the Coming into "Bye" Range, I won't even try to locate it. Hope this helps.

Regards. Steven
