FF, >>In the case of box makers, it makes sense for them to get into business that can be used to entice people to buy PC's.

I don't pretend to know if the box makers can be successful in the ISP business. It is my perception that the box makers are scrambling to generate financial growth for the companies when the box business is experiencing slowing growth. I guess I come from the old school and prescribe to the business philosophy that they should be the best that they can be in a business that they know and have been successful in the past. If they do this they will survive. And most important of all is to insure that they are leaders and will transition into the next technology of the PC or the technology that will replace the PC.

Watching this business from my vantage point, there is something wrong with a Gateway, Dell, Compaq, etc. that allows an Emchine business to even get started. These companies should have been the leaders in bringing the cheaper product to market. The Emachine phenomena tells me these managements are not paying attention to their businesses and will not be around unless they have learned a lesson from this experience.
