You are not the only one bothered by the demonization of political opponents and the spread of conspiracy theories. Both sides do it as shown by the October Surprise story spread against Reagan.

I'm not sure there is a trend though. I think there's always been a lot of this. It just doesn't get into the history books much. JMO

chalu2,
You seem to be caught up with the mentality of "if it is not reported by the main stream media, it is not true". Perhaps you should read more and watch network news less. Btw, notice the name of the writer at the bottom of the article.

Lawlessness at the White House
Editorial

By MARVIN LEE

Recent weeks have yielded unambiguous evidence of crime and abuse of power in the White House. Yet nobody seems to care.

First, Judicial Watch unearthed a Treasury report that reveals that the White House orchestrated a politically motivated IRS audit of its client, the Western Journalism Center. The Western Journalism Center has been a long-time critic of the White House. In response to a newspaper ad revealing the botched official investigation into the death of Vince Foster, a California man, Paul Venze, submitted a letter to the White House questioning the tax-exempt status of the organization. The letter was clearly political in nature, otherwise Venze would have submitted it to the IRS. Yet the White House added its clout and power to the letter by forwarding it to the IRS where it received instant priority. An excruciating audit of Joe Farah and his Western Journalism Center ensued.

This is a blatant political abuse of the powers of harassment and intimidation of the IRS by the White House, and it is no surprise that the government for three years has tried to keep the documentary evidence of this crime from the Joe Farah and his legal counsel Larry Klayman.

Yet, apart from the Wall Street Journal, this super-Nixonian abuse of power has received hardly a mention in the national media.

Second is the July 9 testimony by Johnny Chung that his $50,000 donation to Hillary Clinton at the White House was in return for a "wish list" and was directly solicited by aides of the First Lady to repay debts she had at the DNC. Among the items on the "wish list," or quid pro quo, was a visit to the White House Mess -- a wish that was immediately granted. When one of the requests of the wish list, a meeting with the President, was not immediately granted, Mr. Chung complained and he received the goods he had paid for. There cannot be any more obvious evidence of a quid pro quo than that.

This is a clear violation of several statutes -- including prohibitions against taking bribes at the White House -- and a selling of tickets to the White House Mess, which is funded by taxpayers.

Most troubling of all are the at least four groups monitored by the FBI in their attempt to physically harm Johnny Chung or his family at the time he was a witness against the President and the DNC. Two of the groups where from China and it is reasonable to assume that they were sent by Chinese intelligence. But one incident involved an Italian-American. Now, if he wasn't sent by the Chinese, then who could have sent him? What U.S. interest could have wanted this witness silent? Perhaps the answer lies in Chung's testimony that the day after the FBI traced the license plate of the Italian-American, the Justice Department removed the FBI from the protection of Chung as a witness. And one of the Chinese agents relaying threats to Chung, Robert Luu, claimed that he was close to the "number three man" at the Justice Department.

Johnny Chung in his testimony to Judicial Watch also relayed how he sensed that government investigators had no interest in the evidence of crime that he gave them. It is obvious that we would not have reached the current state of lawlessness had it not been for the active cooperation of the Department of Justice and the mainstream media.

Does it come as any surprise that Justice Department announced last week that the suspected Los Alamos nuclear secrets spy, Wen Ho Lee, may not be tried for espionage? None of the other suspected spies have been tried for espionage.

In any banana republic or third world nation, the people would not have accepted such blatant corruption. Resignations would have been the only outcome. Yet the American people, having slowly been adapted by the media to a state of lawlessness at the White House, no longer have any threshold for outrage. They no longer care.

Another example of Media "manufacturing" news.

TV Producer Complains NBC Blatantly Manipulated Gun Issue Data

Letters to Drudge 6/10/99 From Nancy Shack

From Hilary A. Thomas 7-18-99

Dear Mr. Drudge,

Howie Carr and The Howie Carr Show had an interesting experience with NBC's Nightly News with Tom Brokaw on Tuesday. NBC called us and asked if we would discuss the topic of the effect of the Littleton shootings on our listeners attitudes towards gun ownership. Lisa Myers had a piece scheduled for that nights news broadcast and she wanted popular reaction footage to complete her piece.

We agreed. In the first hour of the show Howie asked the listeners how they were effected if at all while the NBC cameras rolled. We took 33 calls. 30 of those calls said the effect of the shootings was to make them want to own a gun for protection and not tighten up the laws.

When the story aired on NBC that night Lisa Myers said that according to polls (which ones she never identified) and popular reactions on talk shows most people were in favor of stricter gun laws and were against gun ownership. She went on to play one of the 3 anti-gun phone calls from our show completely ignoring the 30 calls which did not agree with her premise.

This manipulation and skewing of the actual poll results from our show has caused quite a stir among our listeners who were heard the gun hour and then witnessed the blatant misrepresentation of what the majority response was on NBC news. It has left much of our audience feeling mistrustful and angry with network news in general and NBC specifically. (By the way, this gun control feature led the news while China and the Cox report was buried 11minutes into the broadcast.)

Thanks for letting us vent. Nancy Shack Executive Producer The Howie Carr Show

Yes, emotions do get involved when people like you falsely impugn my patriotism to America. You can not take my condemnation of some individuals and inflate it to encompass the country.

I never mentioned the word "murder". I also said nothing about LBJ or Martin Luther King or Vince Foster or Ron Brown or Marilyn Monroe. These are your own fabrications. Now, you are guilty of false accusations and innuendos. Even those who may agree with your opinion can read and know what I said. It's too bad you have a comprehension problem. You are inserting words of your own as if I had said them, which is a lie and has absolutely no basis in fact. Other folks on this thread can read and comprehend even if you can't.

As for the previous post addressed to me but written as to others. I said nothing about "historical context" but was pointing out the lame excuse the Japanese used for brutality. (note the word "lame"). Pointing out something is far removed from agreeing with it.

If you could ever get it right, you will make a full retraction for misconstruing what little I did say, adding many words not used, adding your own warped spin to them, publishing totally false conclusions, and doing it in such a snidely and sneering manner. Your perch on that high horse does not help your diminutive mental stature.

I still stand by my opinion of FDR. I can't prove I'm right but you can't prove I'm wrong. Embellishing my words certainly will not do the job.

I would like to take this opportunity to apologize for using slang words for the nationalities. I was referring to those who followed the despicable leaders of the Axis but was out of line encompassing entire nationalities.
