"A company like ASTN that mints shares and burns cash like Pompei..."

I don't see ASTN "minting" shares. I do see some clever financial engineering being practiced.

"I have many shorts that I've never covered that I will not have to pay taxes on for years; CLCX, FP et al."

Great short on FP, albeit, a company run unethically to be sure, very unlike ATG!

"BTW, it is an urban myth that a short must sometime cover."
Maybe so. However, there are only so many shares available to be shorted in the first place, unless, an illegal shorting technique is being employed. Once the available inventory of shares which can be shorted has dried up, the shorts must hope like hell they are right!

Interesting rumor on NITE taking over ASTN. Seems natural that there will be some consolidation in this industry before too long, and companies which are laggards in technology and SEC approval will buy their way in.

Have a nice day!
