My impression from an earlier Boston Globe article on Storage Networks is that EMC and/or a founder has invested in this company.

As to NTAP and EMC, I see them as selling into opposite ends of the storage market. EMC focuses on enterprise customers with high end products while NTAP provides affordable entry level solutions for the low end of the market. I don't think that they are in direct competition in many accounts as of today.

I stand corrected on emc partner investing in this project I believe article says he didn't.

Not exactly. The guy associated with EMC put money up in the first round of financing for Storage Networks but not in the round of financing (the second round?) the article announced.
