Much beauty, wonder and interest in Washington, but there's something off about it. For one thing, it's not an around-the-clock kind of place. Number two, it doesn't "look like America," -- in the daylight or the dark. Most foreign capitals seem like thriving real cities in their own right -- hmmm, may have to rethink Brussels and Bonn :-) Places we might consider moving the government (Hey, why not? The Germans are bugging out of Bonn): New York -- this is a no brainer, really (assuming the UN is willing to share turf and Rudy allows a whole new creep class into the city). Hillary would be all over this idea. Boston -- it fills the history square, has energy, character and a suitably long-suffering baseball team. Atlanta -- not only has a baseball team but a malleable news network (in fact, this may open a window of opportunity for jettisoning PBS). It may also forestall a neoseccessionist movement by Ted or Jesse. Orlando -- think about it. New Orleans -- people know how to appreciate corruption in government if practitioners are appropriately colorful. Well fed types less likely to launch a first strike. Camp David could be moved to Breaux Bridge or the middle of Henderson Swamp, for that matter. LA (west of the 405, no, make that PCH, hmmm, Highland?) -- Tan politicians would look better on TV (a cabinet appointment for George Hamilton?). AND, the next time we decide to bomb the crap out of a country, Hollywood can come up with all kinds of special effects that make it more telegenic and completely nonpolluting. As for the history angle, don't overlook fact that the two greatest American Presidents were out of the Golden State -- Reagan and Nixon :-)
