Dr. Jacobs pointed out that GSM can be converted to CDMA using a simple air overlay. ERICY spokesman hinted that US GSM operators were asking them for such an overlay. Dr. Jacobs stated that GSM operators would be better served to switch to CDMA ver ?? than AT&T's EDGE because CDMA allows twice the voice bandwidth and the same data bandwith and both will be ready at the same time.

John: Is this your understanding of the data transmission capacity characteristics of EDGE vs. CDMA? I haven't seen that before. Could you point me to a source? I had thought CDMA's capacity was significantly in excess of EDGE.
