I'm going offline--errands to run, etc. I shall think and let you know. I have sent your posting to me as a PM to remind me.

If you do come up by yourself, you are welcome to stay with me. Unfortunately, I live in a studio so I can't accommodate your family.

Re hotel: What kind of atmosphere do you prefer and price range would be helpful.

When I took the family to New York we stayed at the Flathotel, in midtown. FANTASTIC place. All apartments. We had a huge apartment with living room, kitchen alcove fully equipped, dining area, Master bedroom and bath, large 2nd bedroom, 2nd bath in hall, Murphy bed in living room (we had five of us). Cost us, as I recall, under $200 per night, which is cheap for NY. The rack rate was about twice that, but I got it through a reservations system, I forget which one now (was a few years ago), but I just started searching NYC accommodations on the net and found it. They have smaller apartment flats, too. It was on 40 something (47th?) between, as I recall, 6th and 7th Aves, anyhow right in the heart of midtown, walking distance of Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Central Park, the major 5th Avenue shopping areas, etc. If you can find a decent room rate I can't recommend it too highly (and keep in mind that you save money cooking breakfast in and being able to make and take lunch if you want to, which we did several days).

It's actually Flatotel, not Flathotel as I typed the first time.

Their web site:

newyork.hotelguide.net

But, as I say, try some of the reservation services. Ours was something Apple or Apple something, as I recall, but I don't remember stuff like that very well. And it was 52nd street, not 47th.
